Outcry due to rain and flood, rivers in spate, water filled on roads

Weather update: In many states of the country including Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, many rivers are in spate due to heavy rains. Rains are also continuing in the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana etc. Due to heavy rains, the roads are waterlogged at many places. Villages have been cut off from cities. The situation is visible due to the flood.

Amarnath Yatra canceled on the second day as well: The Amarnath Yatra was suspended for the second consecutive day on Saturday due to heavy overnight rains in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Vehicular movement was temporarily suspended on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Mughal Road following several incidents of landslides. A portion of the road leading to the Panthiyal tunnel has been washed away.

Roads closed due to heavy rains in Himachal: One person was killed and two others were injured when the roof of a gurdwara collapsed due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district. 130 people were rescued from a village in Una district. Around 59 roads were closed in the state till Thursday evening. The state has suffered a loss of about Rs 320 crore during this monsoon season while 43 people have died in rain-related incidents.

Heavy rains in Karnataka, life affected: Heavy rains continued on Friday in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka, affecting normal life in different parts and disrupting vehicular movement, while a woman was killed in a landslide. The Kumaradhara river at Kukke Subramaniam is almost in spate and the bathing ghat near the temple is almost submerged. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the coastal areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.

Car drifted in Haldwani

The car was swept away like a leaf in a rain gutter: River drains are in spate due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand. In Haldwani district, on Friday, the Sher Nala flowing in Chorgaliya area carried away a car with its strong current. Thankfully, the lives of the car riders were saved in time. Videos of car drifting are now becoming fiercely viral on social media.

More than 7800 homeless in Kerala: Eight people have lost their lives while over 7800 people have been displaced in incidents related to heavy rains triggered by the southwest monsoon in Kerala. IMD issued ‘Orange’ alert for Kannur and Kasargod districts, while six other districts of Kerala had ‘Yellow’ alert for today. The Thrissur district administration said that the gates of the Peringalkuthu dam would be opened today due to which the water level of the Chalakkudy river may increase, therefore people living along the river have been warned to be cautious.

How will be the weather today: According to weather agency Skymet, during the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain may occur over parts of Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, parts of Telangana, Vidarbha, South Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Scattered light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Southwest Rajasthan.

Light to moderate rain is possible over Northeast India, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, parts of Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, West Uttar Pradesh, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, parts of Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. Light rain is likely over North Rajasthan, Coastal Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Interior Tamil Nadu, Interior Karnataka and Ladakh.
