Aga Khan University Professor of Medicine Dr. SM Waseem Jafari has said that balanced consumption of sacrificial meat is extremely important for citizens to avoid complex health related problems, including foodborne illness. He expressed these views in the seminar room of Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi on the topic of “Health related issues on Eid al-Adha” under the public awareness programme. Prof. Jafari has said that diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea, fever, fatigue, back or joint pain are the symptoms of FBD disease. He said that this disease includes many diseases which is a growing public health problem in the world which is sometimes fatal, due to which complex diseases like cholera, hepatitis A, typhoid fever, etc. FBD disease is divided into two categories, one is FBD infection and the other is FBD intoxication.

He said that the role of cleanliness is very important in the prevention of foodborne disease, prevention of foodborne disease is possible with a few important preventive measures, which include washing hands and surfaces frequently, cooking food separately, Timing includes maintaining specific temperatures, immediate refrigeration, and maintaining personal hygiene. It is important for the citizens to consume a balanced diet on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha to avoid various health-related diseases.
